Minecraft x Urban Archive: Digging for Urban Renewal

Sunday, October 8th at 12pm at the (New)burgh Porch, 15 S. Johnston Street, Newburgh.

Urban Archive is a technology nonprofit that provides museums, libraries, archives, and historical societies with a unified digital platform to share their collections with the broader public. UA’s mission is to extend the reach of cultural organizations with collaborative tools built to share local history, fostering deeper connections between communities and their heritage.  Ember Beeler, founder of The Newburgh Project will discuss her work. The Project aims to virtually rebuild the city of Newburgh, NY, as it stood before Urban Renewal tore down over 1,300 buildings and displaced over 800 families in the 1960s and 1970s. The virtual model is based in Minecraft to allow users from all over the world to have easy access to the project. The goal is to educate and inform people from educational, Hudson River Valley and gaming backgrounds alike, encouraging the revitalization of the City of Newburgh.

This event is co-sponsored by The Fullerton and Urban Archive and is presented as part of @archtober, NYC's annual architecture and design festival.
