Garden Showcase Exhibit & Archtober Newburgh Opening!

Newburgh, NY, has played a significant role in the history of landscape architecture, particularly during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Its strategic location along the Hudson River and its scenic views made it a prime site for innovative landscape design. The Hudson River School of Art, which celebrated the region’s landscapes, helped popularize the aesthetic value of natural settings, influencing landscape architects and designers who drew inspiration from the area's dramatic vistas.

And before Central Park in Manhattan, there was the designed landscape of the Downing Park, created by famed landscape architects Frederick Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. These spaces exemplify the integration of natural beauty with public accessibility, that emphasizes harmony between built environments and nature.

Today we see residents gardens in a variety of forms. Gardens can be decorative, used to grow food, work to protect our climate, or all three at once! Whether its in our frontyards, streetscapes, backyards, porches, empty lots, public spaces, or rooftops, gardening is a great way to beautify your home and our city. It’s a way to connect with neighbors and become a part of a larger community.

Before September 15th, garden lovers or owners nominated neighbors to be part of Newburgh Garden Showcase Exhibition They filled out a survey online to share why this garden deserves a nomination and has a chance to win $250 to Adams Fairacre Farms!

The exhibition opening will be Friday October 4, 6pm at Gritworks Gallery, 115 Broadway, Newburgh, NY.

This is a collaboration with the following organizations Newburgh Urban Food & Farm Initiative, Garden Club of Orange and Dutchess County, Keep Newburgh Beautiful.
