Whether you’re an architecture aficionado or just curious about the stories behind our buildings, there’s something for everyone!

Pecha Kucha, chit-chat in Japanese, is a unique presentation style that's fast and fun. These presentations use the 20x20 rule, where each presentation consists of 20 slides, and each slide is displayed for only 20 seconds, automatically progressing to the next one. This results in a total presentation time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

Saturday October 12 at 9am-1pm at ADS Warehouse at 105 Ann St Newburgh NY. The Green Building Symposium as a part of Archtober Newburgh 2024. For the second weekend in October, this workshop will be a half day dedicated to learning, idea-sharing, and putting pressure on ways to advance sustainability in the local and regional building industry.  3 AIA Credits

Sunday October 6 at 12pm-6pm at various locations. This new festival that animates the community and bring it together around music. Porchfest celebrates music, creativity, and neighborhood spirit by transforming front porches into live music stages. Local musicians perform a diverse range of genres, from folk and rock to jazz and classical, right on the porches of homes. Attendees stroll through the streets, enjoying the sounds while experiencing the charm of the community and connecting with neighbors.

Lander Street, once a block that was emblematic of the vacant and abandoned housing crisis in Newburgh, has been completely transformed largely thanks to the Newburgh Community Land Bank and RUPCO. Learn more how this massive effort was undertaken- could it be replicated?

Sunday October 6 at 2pm at Festival Hub at 113 Liberty Street Newburgh NY. The technological platform, Minecraft creatively allows the public to access and learn about City of Newburgh’s history. Come learn how your tech skills can be put to use in a collaborative fashion.

Sunday October 6 at 1pm at Festival Hub at 113 Liberty Street Newburgh NY. A new cultural resource survey re-examines the boundaries of the East End Historic District, focusing on 529 buildings that reflect over 200 years of our city's immigrant history. Preservationist Marissa Marvielli will share the methodology, research findings and ask YOU what are the recommendations of next steps? Is it memorials, more programs, advocacy of some kind.

What is a tool library and how can it support Newburgh? A tool library is a community resource where residents can borrow tools for home improvement, gardening, and more, much like a traditional library but with tools instead of books.

Saturday October 5 at 5pm at Festival Hub at 113 Liberty Street. The Sixth Section opens a surprising window on immigration in the 21st century. Following a group of Mexican immigrants from the tiny desert town of Boqueron who now work in upstate New York. The Sixth Section is an intimate portrait of how the 'American Dream' is being redefined by today's immigrants.

Saturday October 5 at 3pm at HV House Parts at 201 Ann St Newburgh NY. Join us for an engaging and free workshop on the art of using lime mortar for repointing your historic home’s stones and bricks! Discover the importance of this breathable, porous material and learn about different mortar mixes tailored for restoration.

Saturday October 5 at 2pm at Festival Hub at 113 Liberty Street. AIA Credits Offered. As you stroll through Newburgh's historic neighborhoods, see if you can spot ironwork! This event teaches us about the significance of each structure, the stories they hold, and the unique architectural features that make them stand out. Architectural historian Steve Baltsas argues that Newburgh has the most ironwork between New York City and Albany.

Sunday, October 6th from 10am-3pm at 189 Montgomery Street Newburgh NY

This free event invites participants to bring hard-copy images of Greater Newburgh to be digitized at no charge.  Participants will leave with access to high-res digital files and their original materials.  

Reservations for scanning are required. Otherwise to observe demonstrations, you can just show up.

As you stroll through these historic neighborhoods, you’ll learn from students from YouthBuild and NFA's Architectural program about the significance of each structure, the stories they hold, and the unique architectural features that make them stand out. Highlights of the tour include pointing out a variety of architectural styles, from Victorian to Federalist and unique building details. Learn the historical context of the area and its impact on the community.

Saturday October 5th at 12pm at HV House Parts at 201 Ann St Newburgh NY. For our hands-on workshop, we turn to Hudson Valley House Parts. Restoring old doors may seem daunting but often it's a very doable DIY project once you know how. This workshop is an introduction to what to consider, materials to use and the basic steps.

Saturday October 5 at 11am-1pm at 113 Liberty Street Are you submitting an application to the Architectural Review Commission? Building off of last year's program, we have delved into some of the challenges but also solutions. Join us for a conversation with architects, ARC members and other municipality leaders who know the application process well and will think how to make it better.

Saturday October 5 from 11am to 3pm at the Newburgh Farmers Market at Liberty St and Ann St. Kids and adults are welcome! Join Newburgh Creates for a super fun workshop in which children and adults repurpose LEGO® bricks as a printmaking medium on specially designed presses. Then together, build a collective mural to hang in the public realm.

Newburgh adopted the Good Cause Eviction Law Summer 2024. This legislation was a response to growing concerns about housing stability and aimed to provide greater protections for tenants against unjust evictions. An upcoming information session will address the new legislation offering a balanced overview for both tenants and landlords.

In 2008, The City Council of the City of Newburgh found that the rehabilitation and renovation work on historic properties located in historic districts tends to be more expensive than similar work on other properties because of the nature of the work and the cost of materials that may be required. The purpose and intent of the 444A Tax Abatement is to provide a property tax incentive to encourage investment in and the rehabilitation of historic properties, and to preserve the historic character of real property located within the City of Newburgh.
