Lander St Stabilization Walking Tour
Lander Street, once a block that was emblematic of the vacant and abandoned housing crisis in Newburgh, has been completely stabilized and transformed largely thanks to the Newburgh Community Land Bank. Download map here.
Striving for affordable homeownership, Landbank will share the history and strategy for stabilizing the block with restoration and infill development projects. Additionally, on this walking tour, the Land Bank's partner, RUPCO, will share its work on the block and its newest program, "Newburgh Targeted Home Improvement Program (T-HIP)," with grants up to $40,000 to perform repairs in 12550 as a way of focusing on preserving our architectural heritage while supporting homeowners.
This walking tour will provide insight on an organization's development strategy, importance of critical mass of investment, overcoming unexpected challenges, securing partnerships, and supplementing with useful legacy programs into the preserving the fabric of our community. The tour will entail visiting 1-2 apartments.
Concluding the weekend festival, attendees will have a brief tour of the adaptive reuse of the United Methodist Church project that is now HighPoint- a commercial and community service campus operated by LYNC (see recent award). This segways into a delightful closing party with Pecha Kucha Presentations at Hudson Valley Cheesecake.
